In a city where many people talk the talk but don't walk the walk, Egger went one better than feeding the homeless: On the day the elder George Bush became president, Egger jump-started the D.C. Central Kitchen with excess food from the inauguration, later collecting surplus food from local restaurants, then training men and women from drug-treatment programs, shelters, and halfway houses to prepare it. Self-confidence is sexy, but instilling that quality in others is even sexier.
